Chuseok Myeongseolsoeggi with the Bukhyangmin, Yutnori? Shungnori!🎊

Did you know that in North Korea, when throwing Yut, they don't say "Yut" but "Swung!" ?

Last Chuseok, the first "Holiday Soup" event that we had been waiting for and preparing for ended successfully!

This event was planned to share the warmth of hometown with families of North Korean defectors who cannot visit their hometown during the holidays. The participants were divided into five teams and enjoyed playing exciting traditional games such as Jegichagi and Yutnori without noticing the time passing. After the event, they had a dinner of Janchi noodles and had time to give out gifts.

While playing Yut, I noticed that their Yut Nori terminology was unique. I was amazed to see them shout “Swung!” when throwing the Yut. We found out that in North Korea, Yutnori is also called “Ssungnori.” It is said to be derived from the dialect word “Ssung” which means “cow.” Isn’t that really interesting? Until the day when the South and the North shout “Ssung!” together, our holiday celebration events will continue. Please look forward to the next event!
